Your Core Numbers Are Keys (And You Can Cut Your Own)
· Updated

This article comes from a larger work that centres around Consciousness Raising and Numerology.
Think of the numbers in your core chart as keys. At birth, you were handed certain keys, and they make it easier for you to channel certain emanations of the energy of the universe that flows through everything. You do have access to all of it, though. Your particular set of keys just makes some doors swing open more easily.
Each number belongs to a planetary ruler, and that's how I think about the energy behind it: 1/Sun, 2/Moon, 3/Jupiter, 4/Rahu, 5/Mercury, 6/Venus, 7/Ketu, 8/Saturn, 9/Mars. Which ones are missing from your core chart? What's hard for you? Those are the doors you weren’t handed a key for, so while you do have access to that energy, you might have to work a little harder for it.
Here’s what most of us do: we go looking for someone who carries the key we lack. We seek out the ones who are organized, or bold, chatty and social, or comfortable with money. Maybe you surround yourself with quiet thinkers or people who always seem to be trying something new. There's nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with those people. But when they're doing the heavy lifting of an energy we haven't developed, we stay exactly where we are. It's more freeing to shift your own vibration than to hope the right person is always around.
That takes sitting with discomfort. Missing keys in our charts tend to show up as the things we avoid, the people who get under our skin, and the situations that keep repeating.
This is Soul Quality Development (SQD): deliberately building the qualities of the numbers you don't have. In my work, Consciousness Raising means getting honest about the patterns we run on autopilot. When we avoid developing a quality, we tend to repeat the same cycles. We say yes to things that hurt us. We keep patterns in place that we'd never choose with our eyes open.
Try this:
On a piece of paper, write "Soul Quality Development." Under it, list every number that's not in your chart. Under each one, write the qualities you'd like to grow. Here's where to start:
- 1/Sun: knowing who you are and letting yourself be seen as that person. Avoiding it can look like deferring, hiding, or waiting for permission to lead.
- 2/Moon: feeling your feelings, receiving, trusting your intuition. Avoiding it can look like staying busy so you don't have to feel, or refusing help.
- 3/Jupiter: faith, generosity, teaching, believing there's enough. Avoiding it can look like scarcity thinking, cynicism, or keeping what you know to yourself.
- 4/Rahu: wanting something out loud, breaking from convention, being the odd one out. Avoiding it can look like doing what's expected and suppressing your appetites.
- 5/Mercury: curiosity, asking questions, adapting, saying the thing in words. Avoiding it can look like rigidity, silence, or sticking to what you already know.
- 6/Venus: pleasure, beauty, receiving love, valuing yourself. Avoiding it can look like overworking, dismissing joy as frivolous, or giving constantly without taking in.
- 7/Ketu: solitude, detachment, release, trusting what you can't see. Avoiding it can look like never being alone, or clinging to people, roles, and the past.
- 8/Saturn: structure, patience, boundaries, long-term commitment. Avoiding it can look like chaos, unfinished projects, or avoiding responsibility and money.
- 9/Mars: courage, drive, taking action, healthy anger. Avoiding it can look like swallowing your anger, staying passive, or going quiet when something needs to be said.
Fair warning: this will probably bring up discomfort, and it might make you angry. That's information. Your SQD is often tangled up with your habits and your fears, and sometimes with the places where you make yourself small or hold judgments you'd rather not look at.
Start tiny. Maybe you lack 8, and clearing out your office makes your heart pound. Maybe you lack 7, and being alone in public makes you want to call someone and fill the silence. Maybe you lack the adventurous 3 or 5, and trying a new food texture is a hard no. Maybe you lack the bold and assertive 9, and you rehearse a hard conversation for days instead of having it. Pick one small thing and do it.
Then give yourself time. Afterward, ask:
- What came up in my body?
- What was I afraid would happen?
- What did I learn about myself?
When you're ready, go back to the list and choose the next one.
I've watched this ripple outward. When you lean into something hard, your energy shifts, and the people around you tend to shift in response. In my experience, your SQD doesn't just change you. It changes the room.
